Individual, Couples, and Family Counselling

People seek counselling for a lot of different things. You may find yourself at a crossroads of transition or loss. You may be experiencing something that is problematic and painful. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or troubling behaviours. Couples or families may pursue counselling because relationships have become disconnected and stressed with pain and tension. Relationships may be stuck in navigating parenting, finances, sex, or a host of other issues. Working together, we will aim to get you back on track so that you can experience a rich and full life.

Why choose Emotionally Focused Therapy?

Based in attachment science, EFT is a way of understanding relationships. It has more than twenty years of research behind it and meets the gold standard set by the American Psychological Association for valid evidence of effectiveness.

EFT begins with the understanding that people are wired to seek and maintain emotional connection. We all have fears, feelings, and needs for comfort, closeness, and care.

For individuals, EFT focuses on emotions and how we manage and use them. This approach offers both symptom relief and deeper transformation. It helps people explore patterns of relating to themselves and to others that cause distress. Through a focus on key underlying emotions, EFT can offer a pathway toward shaping new ways of being.

For couples and families, EFT helps to identify and map out the negative cycles of interaction that relationships get stuck in. EFT creates time and space to understand and articulate your underlying needs and then communicate these needs more clearly. This allows everyone involved to express a more loving and compassionate response to one another.

I can help if you are looking for:

  • a safe place to experience growth
  • an opportunity to turn toward experiences of trauma
  • a space to explore current and past relationships
  • a place to find connection and meaning.

Clinical Supervision

I offer Clinical Supervision or Consultation for Registered Social Workers and Registered/Qualifying Psychotherapists in clinical practice.

Minimal collage with soft neutral tones, images of reflection, note-taking, and calm workspaces. The text “Stay Calm and Be Curious” conveys guidance and mindfulness in Wendy Bulthuis’s clinical supervision approach.

Reflective, collaborative practice

The colleges that govern both professions require or recommend on-going Clinical Supervision throughout a clinician’s career.

However, among therapists working for agencies, supervision focuses primarily on the job management. Those working in private practices may feel isolated. In either case, Clinical Supervision can provide a safe, compassionate and collaborative space.

I meet the CRPO Clinical Supervision requirements and offer Clinical Supervision and consultation to Qualifying/Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers. Moreover, with more than 25 years of experience both within agencies in the Niagara Region and in private practice, I offer a perspective that is both individual and systems based.
